Are you driven to empower survivors of trauma? Do you possess strategic vision and a commitment to good governance? Thriving Survivors seeks dedicated individuals to join our Board of Trustees and help shape a brighter future for those impacted by trauma.


As a Trustee, you will:

·       Provide strategic leadership: Contribute to the organisation's long-term vision and strategic planning.

·       Uphold good governance: Ensure ethical, transparent operations and compliance with all regulations.

·       Oversee financial health: Manage resources responsibly and effectively.

·       Champion fundraising and advocacy: Actively participate in raising funds and awareness.

·       Foster board engagement: Contribute constructively to discussions and decision-making.


We are seeking individuals with:

·       A deep commitment to supporting survivors of trauma.

·       Strategic thinking and financial acumen.

·       Experience in law, academia, international business growth or governance.

·       A passion for promoting diversity and inclusion.

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Specific skills/experience that would be a plus:

·       Life experience.

·       Professional background in relevant fields.

·       Existing networks and connections.

Roles and Responsibilities of Trustees of Thriving Survivors


Trustee Role

As a Trustee of Thriving Survivors, you play a vital role in ensuring the organisation's effective governance, strategic direction, and sustainability in its mission to support survivors of trauma. You are responsible for always acting in the best interests of the charity, demonstrating a commitment to its values and mission.


Key Responsibilities

·       Strategic Leadership: Contribute to the development and implementation of the organisation's strategic plan, ensuring it aligns with its mission and values.

·       Governance: Uphold and promote good governance practices, ensuring the organisation operates ethically, transparently, and in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

·       Financial Oversight: Oversee the financial health of the organisation, ensuring resources are managed responsibly and effectively.

·       Risk Management: Identify and assess potential risks to the organisation and implement strategies to mitigate them.

·       Fundraising & Advocacy: Actively participate in fundraising activities and advocate for the organisation's mission and the needs of survivors.

·       Board Engagement: Attend and actively participate in board meetings and committees, contributing constructively to discussions and decision-making.


Trustee Profile

Desired Skills & Experience:

·       Passion for the Mission: A deep commitment to supporting survivors of trauma and empowering them to thrive.

·       Strategic Thinking: Ability to think critically and contribute to the organisation's long-term vision and strategic direction.

·       Financial Acumen: Understanding of financial management principles and experience in overseeing budgets and financial statements.

·       Fundraising & Advocacy: Experience in fundraising or advocacy, or a willingness to learn and actively participate in these activities.

·       Governance & Leadership: Experience serving on boards or committees, or a demonstrated ability to provide leadership and guidance.

·       Diversity & Inclusion: A commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the organisation and its services.


Desired Attributes:

·       Integrity & Ethics: Upholds the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct.

·       Collaboration & Teamwork: Ability to work effectively with other board members, staff, and stakeholders.

·       Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to build relationships and engage with diverse audiences.

·       Empathy & Compassion: A deep understanding of the challenges faced by survivors of trauma and a compassionate approach to their needs.

·       Time Commitment: Willingness and ability to dedicate the necessary time and energy to fulfil the role effectively.

Specific Skills/Experience that would be Beneficial:

·       Lived experience as a survivor of trauma or working with survivors.

·       Professional experience in relevant fields such as a background in academia, social work, law, or international business development.

·       Existing networks and connections that can benefit the organisation.

·       Specific skills related to the organisation's strategic priorities.

 

Trustee commitment:

Trustees are expected to actively participate in quarterly Board meetings, contribute to the annual Board away day for strategic planning and team building, and serve on at least one committee aligned with their skills and interests. Additionally, trustees may be called upon to provide ad-hoc support based on their specific expertise or areas of specialisation, further contributing to the organisation's mission and success.


Trustee Renumeration: 

Thriving Survivors recognises the valuable contribution of our trustees. While the position is voluntary, we understand that fulfilling your duties may incur expenses. Therefore, we will reimburse reasonable expenses for travel, accommodation, and food necessarily incurred while conducting business on behalf of Thriving Survivors. This commitment ensures that trustees are not financially disadvantaged while dedicating their time and expertise to our cause.
