About the event

The Introduction to Restorative Justice training is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of restorative justice principles and practices. This interactive and engaging course will include a combination of theoretical knowledge, case studies, and practical exercises. Participants will gain skills and knowledge on how to effectively facilitate restorative justice processes to promote healing, accountability, and community building.

  • Apply Restorative Approaches

Learn different restorative approaches and processes, including direct, indirect, and hybrid models. Develop the ability to apply these approaches to real-life scenarios, considering factors such as the severity of harm, the needs of participants, and the desired outcomes of the process. 

  • Facilitate Restorative Processes

Develop the skills and knowledge required to effectively facilitate restorative justice processes, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all participants. Learn techniques for building rapport, active listening, managing emotions, and facilitating constructive dialogue. Understand the importance of creating a supportive and inclusive space for participants to share their experiences and perspectives.

  • Conduct Safety and Needs Assessment

Explore how to conduct a thorough safety and needs assessment for the person harmed and the person responsible, ensuring their well-being throughout the restorative process. Explore best practices for assessing physical and emotional safety, identifying support needs, and addressing power imbalances.

  • Establish Effective Communication

Understand the importance of effective communication in restorative justice processes. Learn techniques for promoting open and honest communication and explore strategies for managing and facilitating constructive dialogue among parties with diverse perspectives and experiences. 

  • Implement Follow-Up Support
