About Thriving Survivors:

Founded in 2016 by our visionary CEO, Ashley Scotland, Thriving Survivors is a Glasgow based organisation dedicated to empowering individuals impacted by trauma. We offer holistic support encompassing emotional and practical needs, ensuring no one is turned away. Our vision to is to provide all people who are affected by trauma with access to responsive and restorative services that promote healing, no matter where they are in the world.


Our commitment to amplifying the voices of those with lived experience is woven into our DNA. This is reflected in our diverse team and the evolution of our core services. We offer a comprehensive support pathway for trauma survivors which consists of four stages.


In the first stage, ‘safety and stabilisation’, our Mentoring support service allows survivors to explore their trauma with someone who has similar life experiences. The second stage, ‘remembrance and mourning’, involves counselling provided by experienced counsellors and psychotherapists, starting after survivors have integrated stabilisation skills. The third stage, ‘finding meaning’, includes a post-traumatic growth programme that covers emotional intelligence, mindset and behaviours, and personality testing, helping survivors increase confidence and manage negative emotions. Finally, the fourth stage, ‘living life with purpose’, offers a mentoring training programme for those who have progressed through the services, enabling them to become mentors and support others.


Role of the Chair:

As Chair, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight to the Board, ensuring effective governance and the organisation's sustainability and impact. Key responsibilities include:

·       Leading Board meetings and ensuring effective decision making.

·       Working closely with the CEO.

·       Contributing to strategic planning and organisational direction.

·       Overseeing financial health and fundraising efforts.

·       Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

·       Advocating for the organisation's mission and the needs of survivors.

 

Qualifications:

·       Passionate commitment to the vision and mission of Thriving Survivors.

·       Proven leadership and governance experience.

·       Strong strategic thinking and decision making skills.

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

·       Financial management and fundraising experience is desirable.

·       Experience in developing a business to support growth.

 

Commitment:

Board meetings are held quarterly and provide a space for the Board to discuss strategic issues, review performance, and make decisions. Meetings follow a structured agenda and adhere to established procedures to ensure efficient and effective decision making.


Committee Structure and Participation

The Board utilises committees to address specific areas of focus. These committees include:

·       Risk and Audit.

·       Policy, Research and Ethics.

·       Fundraising and Events.

·       Service Development and International.

Trustees are asked to participate in committees that align with their skills and interests.
